I am inspired by writing that I cannot read, pronounce, or interpret. I can enjoy the letter forms of Burmese, Kufic, and Kanji without being interrupted by their meaning. I wanted to create a font with a striking appearance whose letters would have no meaning to any culture. I began by creating some basic elements like straight lines and half-circles and arranging or repeating them different ways. What resulted after a few drafts was an alphabet of viney, serpentine letters which led to the name “Seaweed.” After finishing the alphabet I wanted to put it to use so I did type treatments with some landscape photography (by Fabio Governato) which I think amplifies their primitive and mysterious characteristics.

Looks like I created an identity for Hollow Earth Radio. Here is a poster I just finished for the Magma Festival using variations on the art I did for their website.
Lots of information to sort out on this one (like what is the proper concise way to write that Thao of Thao with the Get Down Stay Down is playing unaccompanied by the Get Down Stay Down?)

Look for some illustration I did on Hollow Earth Radio's new website. The mountains are crawling with various creatures from the hollow earth mythology- trilobites, a UFO, Shangri-la, lemurians, etc.

For some reason the idea of ghosts does not make me think of formerly living souls, rather I picture them as separate creatures which float around mysteriously, oblivious to the concerns of the living.

This picture came about when I decided to trade drawing styles with my friend and fellow SCCCCA student Chloe Scheffe who gave me a phrase to illustrate, "Your blood, your bones, your voice, your ghost". This is the result and now she owes me a drawing for the phrase I gave her, "Birdlier thanst thou."

Chloe will soon be famous for her sweet photography.

"Your Body is Not Your Friend" by L.A.P.D.ants

Here is the song I wrote for the "One Minute Singles" compilation, Ball of Wax 18. The vocalist I originally wanted refused to sing after hearing the lyrics. Fortunately, Snowman Plan violinist Jonah Byrne was around, who accompanied me on vocals and also masterminded the "cat party" breakdown at the end of the song. Enjoy.

P.S. Here's a note from the cd release show as reviewed by Seattle Show Gal: "A few bands do deserve mention for more than their lineup. L.A.P.D.ants were a frantic act, and the end of their song “Your Body” devolves into a cat party with each member of the band taking turn meowing."

As of this posting I am in the busiest of school seasons and sadly I have had no time to spend on the project that consumed my summer, this as-yet-unnamed cartoon which is far from completion. I hope to have a couple minutes of it online by the end of winter break. Expect some familiar voices, and strange music. Here are some screenshots for now:

Penetration is a Capitol Hill Art Walk Afterparty by Dumb Eyes, on the 2nd Thursdays of the month at the Bus Stop in Seattle. This is a preview of the animation I did for them. Prism glasses were taped over the camera while filming to simulate the live experience.
